Ophthalmologic operation

The application of laser in biomedicine is categorised into laser diagnosis and laser treatment. The former uses light as the information carrier, and the latter as the energy carrier. Laser therapy is first used in ophthalmology, such as retina welding, iridectomy, ocular fundus diseases treatment, correction for refractive error (short-sightedness, long-sightedness, corneal resection, corneal graft), cataract surgery and glaucoma treatment, etc. Laser surgery, as an effective clinical treatment, has lower infection rate and higher safety than traditional surgery methods.


Urological operation

2 micron laser show a broad prospects in surgical procedures. For urological diseases such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, traditional electric resection usually takes longer time to complete than laser surgery, which means more bleeding and greater risk. 2 micron laser surgery is the most ideal treatment at present. Laser urological operation greatly improves the surgical safety and reduces the operation time and recovery time.


OCT applications

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a biomedical imaging technique that uses light to capture micrometer-resolution, three-dimensional images from within optical scattering media (e.g., biological tissue). OCT is based on low-coherence interferometry, typically employing near-infrared light. Since the optical signal is associated with the obtained information, the light source has a significant influence on OCT performance as signal carrier. Therefore, broad spectrum light source is recommended to get optimal resolution.
